Barbers

A Memory of Rugeley.

As a school boy I clearly remember having my hair cut at Heatherly’s barber shop, situated at the top of Upper Brook Street. The shop was run by two old guys (brothers I think) one was named Tom, not sure about the other.

A fascinating little shop with a tiny counter at the front of the shop where they sold tobacco products & fishing tackle.

Yes the two barbers at Heatherleys were brothers, i guess they must have originated from Sheffield as the Hairdressers part of the shop had old black and white pictures of Sheffield Wednesday, and i always suspected that one of the brothers had played for them. My most vivid memory of having a haircut there a a boy was the brothers took turns to serve in the shop so almost always there was a change in mid haircut, sometimes on several occassions.
Tom Heartherley was also a Senior Scout Master and was well known to generations of Rugeley Cubs and Scouts, and always led the scouts at the Remembrance Day parade
