Ordsall Lane

A Memory of Salford.

I was born and brought up in Chadderton Street near Greengate and Irwell, which we
called the rubber works. My mam and dad both worked there. I used to play on mark addie waiting for my dad coming home from work, whose name is Ernie Heywood. There
was a sweet shop on the corner of Derwent Street called Doris's. Nearly all my relatives
lived around there, the Willoughbys, Vincents, Heywoods and Brackens.

I worked at the rubber works from 53 to 83 and knew your dad very well one of the jobs I had was similar to your dads whereas he moved lighter stuff around on a hand truck I drove a auto truck moving heavier stuff correct me if i'm wrong but I can remember a Jack and Andy Heywood and I think one was Alan who had a serious health problem which he died from while out on a trip of the others there was a Bert Willoughby, Sam Vincent, Ronnie Bracken when I left all the factory and surrounding houses had gone I worked in that new bit which was attached to the old engineering factory I see your name is Fernley I knew a Bill Fernley who worked there was you related to him? Good old days. Back in the 70/80 and so on
Ordsal was a good place now its like yuppie place bring back old salford and the pubs

My grandmother worked at the rubber woks as far as I recall maybe sometime in the 1950's before that the bonded warehouses somewhere nearby .... Her name was Agnes Graham...
