Salford 6 And Pendlebury

A Memory of Salford.

Just finished reading all the memories on here, most of them from Salford folk so much younger than I. Born in 1931, I lived In Pendlebury, as that’s now part of Salford does that qualify me as a Salfordian? I went to school in Salford though, St.Lukes Salford 6. I left there in 1945, just after the war to go and live in North Wales. I still remember the names of some of my classmates; Jim Mitchell and Terry Platt were my mates, Josie Morgan, Mary (June) Barry. There were two sets of Nolans, cousins I think. The Dignan brothers, Ken and Vince. Josie was captain of the girls sports team when we took part in the Salford Schools sports, Larry (or a name similar) Constantine, a famous West Indian cricketer presented the prizes. Renee Ball, lovely girl with lots of red hair, didn’t go to St Lukes but lived next door to it on Stapleton Road so some of us were friendly with her, her Dad was a huge policeman and we were all scared of him. I used to deliver newspapers in that area of Salford for a shop near the school. My auntie Mary (Mrs Marron) lived in the next street, New Barton Street. I well remember the air raids when my younger sister, Theresa and I had to sleep under the stairs, and the night when a so-called land-mine (a parachute bomb) dropped a couple of streets away and all the windows came in.
Since then I have lived and worked in many parts of the world and now live in France but have happy memories of my time in Salford.
