Alma Road

A Memory of South Harrow.

Does anyone remember Alma Road and Alma crescent? It has been built over now, it was at the bottom of the rise to the top of Northolt Road. At the top of Alma Road was the Harrow on the Hill laundry. Opposite the road was The Three Horseshoes Pub which is no more......I do have pictures of the road with my mates standing around, and a picture of a street party for the Queen in 1953. My dad worked in the Gas works over the road. There is so much more to tell. I would love to see any pictures of the road.

Hi i am very instrested in your comment i would like to know what the history was of the harrow boys laudry room please which is now flats i live in one of the flats thank you.
Hi, I used to live round the corner in Shaftesbury Ave. As kids in the late 60's and early 70's, we used to play in Alma Road. All the houses were derelict and it was like one of those post war bomb sites you used to see in old films of the 50's and 60's.
I remember the laundry at the top of the road. I think that was still in use.
Once, we were chased by an old woman who came out of one of the houses wielding a rolling pin. She looked like an Ena Sharples character. We ran half way down the road and then stopped to look around. The old woman was gone. We went back to the house she came from but there was no-one there. Spooky eh? We once found a tramp sleeping rough in one of the houses.
I was in the 6th Roxeth cubs in the 1960s and our Akela lived in Alma Road. I think she was Miss Wildman and it could have been her chasing you. She knew no fear!
