Carlyle Ave & Lady Margaret Road

A Memory of Southall.

I was born at Lady Margaret road and Carlyle ave in 1952. We shared the home with my grandad Fred Puddy who was well known in the area. He was the southall cricket coach and a long distance runner. Also shared the home with my uncle Norrie Puddy who was a snooker champion. Mum's familly consisted of 5 girls and 2 boys. They all grew up in southall .Mum told me many stories of living in southall during the 2ww. going out sesrching for buzz bombs etc. Dad (Sydney Palmer) was in the 8th army and was gone for the duration of the war. We moved to Canada when I was 5 years old. I have gone back a few times but it is very different now. Hardly any family left. I am in the middle of rewriting my dads memoirs from a journal he kept for the 1st 3 years of the war whilst he was stationed in Malta with the 74th light A.A. Also trying to find my few remaining cousins from southall and hayes, David and Lynda Gray and Gary Wedlake.

Hi Jacqueline
I grew up in Carlyle Avenue and the Puddy's were family friends - opposite the Puddy's house..
My Grandparents were Ada & Jack Brown - parents Reg & Vera Redd. Do you recognise the names?
I am David. Please let me know if this rings any bells.

Hi Jacqueline,
My name is Rod Tillyer my Step mums name was Eva Puddy.
I think she was your Dads sister. Obviously we new Fred Puddy as he used come to our house when I lived at Dane Road.
Then we used to go to a Pub called the Hambrough Tavern every Sunday lunchtime where used to meet up Wally Puddy your Dads brother and sometimes Norrie. Obviously we new Peggy Gary's mum as well.
I can remember once there was a family reunion when your Mum and Dad came over and we all met up at a pub which the name escapes me but it was next to Southall Park.
I moved from Southall to live in High Wycombe in 1968 and have lived here ever since.

Hi

My mum grew up on Carlyle Ave a few houses up from Lady Margaret road.
Her names Glynis she had brothers and sisters Maureen, Colin, Brian and Nigel not to forget my Nan Violet Tubb.

I drove past the old house a few weeks ago and could hardly recognize the old house, but nothing much have changed on the road. I will show this post to my family to see if they remember you guys.

Have great memories of the area as a kid during the early 70's.
