Growing Up In Talacre

A Memory of Talacre.

Myself and my sister have written a book called Sisters growing up in Talacre - our parents moved there in the 1930's from Liverpool. Our parents owned the old amusement arcade which was called Brookside Amusements in those days, but sadly Mum sold the arcade in 1985. Can anyone still remember Stripy the Horse 6d a ride which stood outside the arcade during the summer months. I lived there until 2001 but still live close by and visit now and again but Talacre is no longer the same. It was great in the old days when you had the warren and the wooden bungalows, we have plenty of pictures of old and modern Talacre so it will never be forgotten.

Hi Cynthia my family had a caravan in Talacre in the 1950's just about opposite the little shop not far from the dunes. Our closest neighbour had one of those wooden bungalows you mentioned complete with verandah which I thought was wonderful (we had to make do with a converted bus). I think it all disappeared under sand a very long time ago! Happy Days!
Hi Cynthia, I well remember Brookside amusements and all the penny machines, also remember trying to catch fish from the lake at the rear of your mums arcade, I love Talacre and all my memories of such happy times I spent there with mum dad and my six bros and sisters. I visit at least 3 times a year just to get a nice feeling of early years and lovely memories. Thanks for your post.Frank.x
Me and my partner were at the beach yesterday as we love the lighthouse!. My partner remembers going with his family in the late 50/60's and staying in a converted bus. Hi name is Arthur and is 61 now so quite a while ago, he doesn'tknow I am writing this but I know he has very happy memories of happy holidays there. He was probably a little monkey because he still is !!. Thanks all.. Fiona
I remember spending many a happy summer spent in Talacre during the mid 60's, with mum, dad and older sister Annette. We rented a wooden chalet from a man our Dad knew. We called him Uncle Charlie. Our chalet was on the very last lane, so we would go over the sandhill, up the other side then onto the beach. I remember going to the Boathouse for milkshakes and we would play on the penny machines. We also went across the little road and rode on the small cars. I remember a zebra that rode to a d fro. We collected water from the tap at the end of the lane. I think it was opposite a little bakery. The 'Calor Gas Man' would drive round shouting "Calor Gas Calling!" I never remember it raining but do remember how the sea crept around you. Had to keep an eye out! Such happy days. Gave me a love of Wales
