The Queens Bars

A Memory of Thornton.

Does anyone remember the Queens Bars in Cleveleys? I worked there in the cabaret they put on 3 times a night, about 5 acts. I was the 'Jackie' part of Ricky & Jackie Day...and my fondest memory was of a guy called Jimmy Rose, a Country & Western singer, and his lovely wife. Rita...a Birmingham couple....I wonder where they are now, and what the Queens Bars site looks like now...probably a shopping mall.

Thanks to this community, I learned to my great sadness that Jimmy had died only weeks after I searched for him, but he had continued to work and was a very popular guy.
Rita? no-one seemed to know, so perhaps, as always Rita, modest and so generous in every way, was not noticed. Or maybe they had not stayed together. I expect will never know.
I used to work in The Cleveleys hotel in the late seventies and Jimmy played there too, his partner and wife was called Marion. There are a few Facebook groups for memories of Cleveleys and I have seen her posting on them but I don't think she is called Rose, so I guess they mustn't have stayed together
Jimmy's wife was Rita and they had a first born boy whom they Called Carl, after Carl Denver. This was in 1963 through to 1964 when I left Cleveleys.Jimmy and Rita bought a bungalow in Cleveleys and they were living there when I left. Jimmy and Rita looked after me throughout my pregnancy. Jimmy renovated an old pram for my baby because I didn't have a pram. He painted roses all over it and I loved that pram for the love and friendship that he and Rita put into it.
I am sad if Jimmy and Rita didn't stay together. Rita was a lovely person. Carl will be 53 now. I wonder where he is?
