#11 Station Road Family 1916 Till Present

A Memory of Totnes.

My family, the Wicketts, were the first family to move into #11 Station Road, just after it was built. I believe not long before my father, Wilfred, was born in 1916, or prehaps just after his birth(?). My cousin, Margret Coish, nee - Margret Clay and her husband Robert Coish now own #11, making it a family owned house since it was built! The first Wicketts to live there where, my Granma and Granpa-- Mr. & Mrs. Wickett and their chidren, Jack(1912),my Dad- Wilfred(1916), Les(1921) and my lovely(Aunt)- Winifred known as Winnie Wickett later to be known as Winnie Clay born lastly in 1922. They lived a perfectly peaceful, loving, family Totnes life till W.W.2. They all served in the forces from the start to the end of the war including dear Aunt Winnie, for 3 years in the WACs, where she meet, fell in love and married Les Clay. My thoughts of this photo, taken outside of #1 Station Road, at the drinking fountain are as follows.
In 1922 my Uncle Jack Wickett and my father Wilfred Wickett could have been playing football in the park, at the very moment this photo was taken, only a few hundred yards away. In those days the Station Road housing they lived at all had gates leading into the park. My dad, Wilfred, told me that all his brothers and sister, Winnie, always took a drink at that very fountain when playing in the park instead of taking a chance and tracking mud into the house! So as I look at this photo, I can really imagine, my 8 yr. old Uncle Jack and my 6 yr. old dad, Wilfred either waiting to take a drink, having just taken a drink or watching from behind as this photo was taken?!!? Or just maybe that lady pushing the baby pram, could possibly be my own grandma pushing my baby Aunt Winnie??!?? They lived just a hundred yards away and my grandma was very short, as that lady is, and my aunt would be just the right age----(who knows??!!??). What a beautiful town Totnes was, and is, and what a lovely ideallic life those town folk could have with a loving family, and the Wicketts had it all and much more to come, when this photo was taken!!! ! !!
