Seven Sisters Road, 1950's & 1960's
A Memory of Tottenham.
I was born in 1952, and lived at 621 Seven Sisters Road, N15 with my dear old mum and dad. I had friends John and David Warren, Micky Walsh, and Ken Heath. Ken lived in Victoria Crescent and I am still in touch with Ken as we both now live in Northamptonshire. I also remember a girl who lived in Kent Road. We were always having parties at my house in the 1960's. I remember Mrs Spencer's shop on Seven Sisters Road she used to come round with a milk cart. I used to help Bob and his wife (surname of Cooper) in the fish and chip shop on Seven Sisters Road, our cat called Billy used to nick his fish over the fence. I remember the sweet shop on the corner and café on the corner of Elizabeth Road and old Mr Snowman's sweet shop next door. Pearce's wallpaper shop and the greengrocer next to them and a family named Harris. I went to West Green School, St Ann's and Seven Sisters, then Markfield. I put together a pop group called The Age - later changed their name to Hello, they played at my 18th birthday party. When I was young I used to go shopping with my mum in West Green Road. I bought my first drum kit from the swap shop in West Green Road. I saw The Who at the club Norick on the corner of Seven Sisters Road, Keith Moon drummer with The Who gave me a drum stick. Marston's garage was on the other side of the road by the bus stop, but my mum who had lived in Stonebridge Road said a fair ground used to come there before the war. I did a paper round for the paper shop by the railway bridgeon the corner of St Ann's, and Watson's and worked for Mr Southby in Stonebridge Road and on his paper stall in West Green Road. My dad got our first TV from Everyman's shop on Seven Sisters Road near the home-made sweet shop and the bike shop.
I remember getting flooded. I remember Wards stores on the corner of Seven Sisters and High Road and the windows-like island you could walk in the arcade. Remember Rudd's on the corner West Green Road, buying my dinky toy cars there and a shop called Marshalls in West Green Road that sold net curtains and things like that but also sold lovely tin toys and ex juke box singles 45's. I remember the last steam train on the West Green Road line and going to the fair at Lordship Lane park as a teenager. I loved rides like the 'tunnel of love' and making some money on a Sunday helping them pack up. I saw Dave, Dee, Dozy, Becky, Mick and Titch at the Tottenham Royal... amazing live band. At Christmas we would go shopping at Bruce Grove or Wood Green. Happy days.

I am building an O gauge model railway of West Green station and if you go to you to youtube and type in West Green railway you will all my videos.
However here is some thing you will really find amazing, it is a video of a train trip from North Woolwhich to Palace Gates and it shows Sevensisters Road and probably your house, certain Doctor Maslin who was our doctor. A trolleybus heads north towards Manor House
