Elizabeth Allaban

I wonder if anyone could be of help. I am in the process of tracing my family tree and have discovered my great grandmother, Elizabth Allaban (or Allabon) (married in Spalding to Joseph Preddy in March 1891) was a servant in Elton Villas, Spalding. Does anyone know where this is or do you know of anyone with the name Allaban? Joseph Preddy was born in Nettleton.
I would love to hear from anyone as I have become seriously addicted to genealogy.
Thanks
Jane Mitchell

Jailhouse Rock

I remember living in Cowbit and went to see jailhouse rock in the Odeon cinema. Never saw the end of the film because the last bus went to early!

I was in the Gleede boys school in 1960-1961 I then moved to Long sutton and the Peele school.

Allaban Surname

My great grandmother, Elizabeth Allaban (born around 1864) was a servant at Elton Villas in Spalding. Do you know where this would have been in Spalding? I am currently tracing my family tree so would be pleased to hear from anyone with that name. Elizabeth Allaban married Joseph Preddy in March 1891 at Spalding.

Wadeson Family

This isn't a memory (before my time!) but a plea for family history help as I have several ancestors who were born or lived in this area.

My 5th great grandfather Robert Wadeson married Eva Weyman in Whaplode Drove in 1750. They then lived in Barbados, Carribean for several years where my 4th great grandfather Samuel Weyman Wadeson was born in 1754. By 1760 the family had returned to live in Spalding where other children (John and Robert) were born.

I am looking for any information about Robert's birth (about 1725) and his parents or anything else about the family (such as why they went to Barbados ??).

I believe that Eva Weyman was born in Spalding in 1726 to parents John Weyman and Mary and would like to know more about them also.

I would be grateful for any help.

The Hunt Family Cowbit

I have a silver brooch presented to "Bro" AQ. Hunt, Cowbit Branch by the National Union of Agricultural Workers, probably 1930s or earlier. I acquired it from a market stall in Bury St Edmunds many years ago and I would love Mr A. Hunt's relatives to have it. My email is daveb3391@msn.com David Blackford Isle of Wight

The Days Seem to go on Forever

I was brought up in Pode Hole from 1967, my mother Joan is still alive but now living in Spalding, sadly my Dad Ken died in the Fishermans Arms pub on Sept 23 1977. I have a brother Nigel and a sister Susan. We lived at 8, Council House, North Drove. I went to the village school, St Matthews Junior School, and we had to use the Bromley Hall as a classroom, Mrs Cooling was our teacher and the Headmaster was firstly Mr Mills and then later on Eric Long. We had a good upbringing even though times were hard and Mum and Dad didn't have a lot, but they made sure we were fed well and clean. I can remember the school holidays when we used to go fishing in Goldsmiths Pit which is now Lake Ross and playing football on the village playing fields, sometimes leaving the house at 9 in the morning and not going home until dinner time and then straight back out again and then... Old Document

I don't really have a memory- rather some antiquities associated with Whaplode. What I have are two medieval documents that refer to someone dying - probably of the black death that arrived in England & the area at the time the document was written- in 1349. The document- written on vellum with seals- refers to Whaplode- known in those days as Quappelade- to be precise, ""Quappelade- next to Gibbesdrove on the west side". Finding Whaplode led me to this site- but that's only half the mystery..

I still can't locate Gibbesdrove- which must be somewhere near Spalding and Whaplode. If anyone knows where it is, maybe you could email me out here in New Zealand- johnhb69@gmail.com Thanks! John Hansen
