Low Marnham

I now live in Low Marnham, I have lived here for about 7 months, and was interested in its history, and so fell upon this web page. I was most interested in Marion Wilkinson's message about her story of her grandmother who had her throat cut. I wanted to know if you know which house it was, because there is something a little odd about my house, that I don't understand and I wondered if there was a conection. If anyone could help please leave a comment, thanks. Also it is also very wierd that you mention Ripon, because my partner Dave is from Ripon and was born there, and I lived at Boroughbridge which is 7 miles from there. How bizarre.

RE: RE: Low Marnham

Marion Wilkinson's story about her grandmother's death is situated at Dunham on Trent - NOT Low Marnham. Sorry Jo. But if you want to know about the history of Low Marnham, ask Pete Verdun of Normanton, or closer to home, the landlord of The Brownlow Arms.

RE: RE: Low Marnham

Your reply to an enquiry mentions a Pete Verdun of Normanton. If this person is male, aged 65 he may be my childhood friend who lived at Grassthorpe when I knew him. I lived at High Marnham but went to school with him at both Normanton and Tuxford. My emigration to Australia in 1959 concluded our relationship but it would be appreciated if you would help identify Pete. Thankyou John Wood

RE: RE: Low Marnham

We lived in Church Farm Cottage, Low Marnham, between 1971 and 1974.
As we remember there was a strange atmosphere in our house and all sorts of rumours about the old vicarage. Another person who may remember more would be Mr. Parfitt, a motor electrician, who lived opposite the church.
