My Family
On the 1901 census my great-aunt's son Christopher Lodge and his wife Elizabeth (nee Williamson) are living at 87 Crow Trees, Lower Bentham with their daughter Marjery (b.1901) and he is listed as an engine driver. In 1911 they are living in Cumberlaand Villas, Lower Bentham and they now have a son Vernon (b.1909) and he is a Stationary Engineman (?). Has anyone any memory or details of this family please? His mother was a Margaret Fletcher and lived in Burton with her husband John and their children. Any information would be very welcome.
Parochial School
I have fond memories of walking from High Bentham to my primary school - Low Bentham Church of England Parochial School. Teacher Miss Robinson, pupils, Eva Clay, Carol Hinds, Joyce Thornber, snow in the playground, piles of coke, hallway with rows of coats, Junket !!

May be Its me And my Brother And Mum
I think that that is my mum Gladys Haigh, and my brother Douglas who is 4 years older than me is beside my mum, I'm the one in the pram I think! We were going to meet my dad Jim Haigh, we used to live Main Street going towrds the pub, the Horse and Farrier, but moved to Goodenber Road in 1953. Both my parents are dead but I have a brother Douglas, who I think is still alive, he worked at Angus Fire Armour, whom I have not seen for 14 years. I live and work overseas and only visit the UK once a year. This photo brings back memories of 58 years, I would like to know if the group can be actua'ly identified as being the Haighs as it is difficult to make out clearly. I left Bentham in 1971 and travelled the world and I still do.
Bentham Grammer School
I attended Bentham Grammer School which was then located at High Bentham. I believe it has now relocated to Lower Bentham. My memories are many - attending the local church each Sunday Morning, and taking woodworking class at the local carpenters, who also was the coffin maker. Spending my pocket money at the local shops. We also had to do cross country runs around Bentham and on occasions we visited Ingleton Waterfalls.

I am trying to find some information about my great gradfather. He was the postman in High Bentham for many years. His last name was Coates. I don't know his first name.He had a son (William Dabbot Coates) and three daughters Annie, Ethel and Gertie.
Born in Bentham - 1942
I was born in the High Street, just next to the existing Spar shop, which used to be Tustin's garage and also the Fire Station. My late grandfather, Bert Slinger, was a builder who lived on the premises which is now the Chinese takeaway for many years.
I still have quite a few relatives living in High Bentham.
Searching For Members of The Knowles Family
Calling Roger Knowles
I am searching for family rather than having a memory. My mother was born Marjorie Knowles in 1903, sixth child of Christopher William and Hannah Law of Burton. Her grandfather was Thomas who owned the grocer's shop and was married to Jane Oldfield of Low Bentham. I do have photos of them. I saw your name and wonder if you are descended from Thomas' brother, William, who became a teacher in Wales but returned to join the family business. I know of the descendants of the other members of this large family, but not what happened to the children of this brother, and wonder if you could be his grand/greatgrand son.
I appear in family trees as Jenifer Allin but am better known as Glenn (married name Matthews)
