Spray Leaze
We moved to Ludgershall, this street (No 5, third house down) in 1975. My father was with the MOD and worked in the REME workshop in Ordnance Road in Tidworth. By then the road although still a close, was much longer than it shows here with lots more houses. As a boy it was a great place to grow up, as you were right on the edge of the country side with so much to do. There was a triangle of unused land just a bit further down Biddesden Lane which we knew as the common. Each autumn we would build a bonfire to compete with the huge one that was built each year at Wood Park for November 5th.
It was in these woods and fields that we built dens, caught rabitts, scrumped apples and behaved like boys did in those days. Ludgershall was a village with some real characters, good and bad and although I was glad to leave home and the village at 17 there can't be too many places like this to have grown up.

RE: RE: Spray Leaze
We also moved to Ludgershall in either 1974 or 1975. My parents owened the Saddler shop opposite the pub for about 18 months, there was a row of thatched roof cottages between us and the fire station where my dad was a fireman. I used to walk up the little lane to the castle with my friends and we'd play all over that monument with no idea of it's history (or even caring at the time for that matter!). Last night I went to see Robin Hood and I just suddenly got all home sick and realized I knew NOTHING about our little village. I used to sing in the church choir at St. James, I just walked up the little side street that ran next to our building and through the church gate, to church. I went to the little school that was next to the church and then in about 1977 we moved to Short Street, opposite the other school, which now I can't remember the name of! I lived right opposite the school, which made it hard for sick days, I do remember that!! LOL It was a great place to be a kid, we left in 1983 to move to America, I was going to Castledown School at that time. I'm sure, if you moved there in 1974 that we must of somehow known each other but your name doesn't sound familiar.

Hi Zena,
I guess if you were still at Castledown in 83 you were a few years younger. I left in 1980. I left home the folowing year, my parents moved to Kent and I have only ever driven through the place once or twice. 5 Years there was enough for me!
