Custodian of The Castle
Andrew CORDEN, a widowed and retired police constable, became the Custodian or Warden of Ludlow Castle before 1871. He was still taking care of it when he died in 1879 on Dinham at the age of 74.
Did he live in a house on Dinham that came with the job? Which house might this have been? Are there any records of this position?
Andrew was my great great great Grandfather . . .

RE: RE: Custodian of The Castle
Hello Mandy, my brother and I are trying to trace the family tree. It is a little difficult as everyone is deceased now. We have got as far as our great Grandad, he came from the area of East Hamlet, Ludlow. His Mother was Emma Castree. Her Parents were Hester and John, sister Elizabeth and brother Thomas. Here is were it gets complicated. Richards Mother Emma worked in service at Downton Castle. Richard was born on the 7th December 1889. The thing is, we cannot trace who his Father is. Seems Richard was born out of wedlock ! He was taken to his Grandparents home, and they brought him up. You mentioned your great great Grandad was Custodian of the Castle in 1879. I was wondering if you know of any stories of the Castle, or know of anyone who had a relative who worked there ? If you know anything about Emma Castree or any members of her family, or if someone knows anyone who had a relative at the Castle, my brother and I would be very grateful. Kind Regards, Dan.
