RE: RE: Happy Days
Dear Eileen, Sophia, I am writing this on behalf of my husband Derek, who was at the Ormerod convalescent home around, we think, 1959 for 3 months as a result of him contracting whooping cough, and being very ill. He doesn't remember very much, but can just remember an upright, dark piano, the nuns in uniform, going out for a walk in the nearby park, and a visit from his Mum and Dad, where he thinks he was allowed out for the day. His memories are very scant, we still have his letters he wrote home to his Mum and Dad whilst there and they are really heartwrenching. Anyway, he was reluctant to write his memories, so I have done it for him. We now live in Suffolk, but Derek lived in Bedworth in Warwickshire when he was a child, and suffered ill health from a young baby, throughout childhood. I hope these memories mean something to someone out there. Kind regards, Valerie Beasley

I went on my own the first year, around 1965, then my sister joined me, we were there three more times between 1966-1970. We also went to a diferent home in St Anne's but I can't remember the name of it, can anyone help me?

RE: RE: Happy Days
Hi, my name is Margaret Fitzgerald and I was at the Ormerod home in approx 1964/5. I have a few memories of my time there. The room in which I slept had about ten beds in it and there was a desk in the room where one of the nuns would sit. If you wanted the toilet you would have to use the pot under your bed. The only time I was allowed sweets was after dinner and they were kept in a locker, you could choose just one treat, think I remember buying Arrow bars because they were big! Family could send money for treats via postal orders. I remember receiving one and buying sweets only to be told the postal order did not belong to me and I had to give all my sweets back!! The time I spent there was ok, however I missed my family so much, I felt like I had been abandoned. I was only 7 years old and did not really understand why I was there. I still have a birthday card that my Mum and Dad sent to me. My Mum and Dad did not drive, therefore I only saw them once. The Nuns who ran the home were fine. I spent some time in the sick bay I don't recall exactly what was wrong with me, I do however remember the nurse who looked after me, she was wonderful. Hope these memories help Kindest regards Margaret
