Maesteg Swimming Baths

I remember lots of lovely summer days during the school holidays which were spent at the open air swimming baths. We would travel down on the bus from Caerau, taking a cut lunch, and spend so many happy hours there. We had lots of fun jumping from all the diving boards and meeting up with school friends, both boys and girls. My husband lived in Temple Street and he and his mates would also spend many hours there. Glyn Maddock was the sort of caretaker, and he was great with us teenagers. I have been in there when I have returned to Maesteg on holiday, but there is not the same atmosphere now.

RE: RE: Maesteg Swimming Baths

I left Maesteg many years ago now... Glyn Maddock was my grandad's brother, he was a lovely man. Before I was able to swim he would see me getting a little to close to the deep end and he would holler at me to get back to where it was safe. I remember him as red headed mountain of a man.

RE: RE: Maesteg Swimming Baths

I used to go to the cricket field often - I loved paying and watching cricket - and used to stand on anything to look over the wall into the swimming baths. I was a young teen then and one day I vivedly remember a boy reluctantly on the diving board, trying to pluck up courage to jump. A red-haired girl in a swimming suit - I don't think bikinis were in then were they? - mouthed some kind of dare with a prize if he jumped, which he immediatey did, and she ran, laughing nervously!! I made my own mind up about what the dare was, and enjoyed many an erotic moment or three immagining it!! I remember what the girl looked like well, but have no idea what he looked like...... If that girl reads this, get in touch!!!
