Great Dane

Post Office c1955
Enlarge photo |  More about this photo

I remember the Great Dane in the picture. My Grandma had a Yorkshire/Manchester Terrier cross, and the two animals looked so incongruous when they met. My aunt Doris Greenslade lived in a tiny cottage owned by Walter Little Senior situated 100 yards to the left of the post office in the picture.

RE: RE: Great Dane

The Great Dane went by the name of Tracy, so called because his profile resembled that of Dick Tracy. He belonged to the Postmaster's daughter, Margaret.
Tracy must have got around a bit - he was also a chum of our Manchester/Fox terrier cross, Mate, another midget compared with Tracy.
The photo is of the 'new' Post Office, which wasn't built until around 1960.
Those were the days!
