I can remember waiting at Ashley Down Station for the steam train; towels,swim suits and picnic in big beach bags. In the late 1950’s and as a young boy around 8 or 9 living in the west end of Newcastle, I used to visit my Auntie Bella and Uncle Ted regularly.
