Nostalgic memories of Milford's local history

Share your own memories of Milford and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

My mother was in the WAAFs during WWII. She met my father (an American G.I.) at a dance in Henley. They married in 1944 and after the war, my mother traveled to the United States as a war bride. I was born in Nebraska in April, 1948. In 1951, my mother was aching to visit her parents in England. My father managed to raise enough money for my mother, my sister and I to sail to England in the Spring of 1951. I ...see more
More likely to be the White Lion, on the right of the picture! Certainly not Milford House 1924!
My mum and dad worked in Milford Chest Hospital in the 50's where they met and married in 1955, and they are still together.

I remember this hospital well! It was right next to King George V Hospital. KGV was a Chest Hospital and had a great many TB patients. I wish their were a picture of KGV here ...
I was fortunate to live in Milford for two years when I was 7 and 8. They are my clearest memories of the past. Went to this school, wooden floorboards that were quite an accompaniment to country dancing class. Nature walks and drawing plants on the plain side of the notebook. Warm milk on the radiators, a lovely light art room, queen of the may. And Mr Pontin too. My mother would walk me to school ...see more
We also lived in Milford Lodge for a while in the 60's. My son Richard Harvey went to the same school but I think you were a bit above him. He remembers your brothers more than you. We left for Australia in 1967 when he was 11, but can remember that you lived just inside near the bus stop entrance.
I went to this school in 1966 when I was 7 years old. I lived just across the road in Milford Lodge, were my mum and dad still live. I remember Mr Pontin being the Headmaster. My mum used to be the cleaner and my dad used to light the boiler for the heating at the school. The school was knocked down and old people's flats were built on the site. The church is still there and still very active - not much has ...see more
I remember so many memories of Milford especially living in our cottage, it was opposite the pub that my parents worked in, my mum was a cook and dad was the manager, we knew everyone in Milford in them days. The A3 was a very busy road, we lost quite a few cats to the road. The sad thing was that a few years after my dad died my mum decided to sell and we moved not far, only to Godalming, but having lived ...see more
Having been born and living in Milford till I was 18/19 years old I remember this shop, probably from 1969 when I was about 5, my mum used to do the delivery driving for them at one time. I loved going to the shop. I used to walk just across the road as we lived in the cottage opposite the pub (White Lion). I had a best friend who moved there after Mr and Mrs Blake left, Stephanie Parsons was her name, we used to play in the rooms above the shop, and had a real good time.
