Church Road Shopping Parade

Haselmere Road 1906

This is Church Road, 200 yards north of the church, not Haslemere Road. The building on the left of the photo is now a club. In the 1950's we children used to call it "The Wobbly Man's Club".

RE: RE: Church Road Shopping Parade

Nearly every evening, it seemed, my grandad used to disappear off to the Wobbly Men's Club. He won the snooker championship three times, I think, and got to keep the cup - this made him a much greater celebrity than Beckham is today - perhaps only outshone by Denis Compton (Middlesex, England and Arsenal) and Goey Hall (Milford)!
