Good Times
Hi, I was born in 1952 at Silver Terrace, Southdown, lived there till 1965, went to primary school at Blindwell Hill. I still have relatives living there, lots of older relatives buried there. Great memories of long summers wandering around Sango and the pits. The old Southdown social club, we used to have great fun on the jumping walls, all of which are now sadly gone. The carnivals used to be brilliant on the quay with the slippery pole on the quayside. Most of my old stomping grounds are now gone or have been built on or changed to busness sites. Wilfy Hocking's farm. Most of the kids in Millbrook itself rarely came to Southdown, all our friends came from the council estate. The old brickwork kilns buildings and chimneys were our playing fields, great fun.
The Rame Peninsula Through Time
I am currently compiling a book for Amberley Publishing called 'The Rame Peninsula Through Time'. The book will feature 90 old photos and 90 new photos. The new photos will all be in colour. I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to lend me any old personal photos they have of the area? Email copies would be fine. Bryants of Millbrook
For Roy Bryant whose message I recently read on Millbrook Memories. I too had Bryant relatives living on West Street Millbrook in !840s. I believe your Richard Bryant is the brother of my Gt Grandfather Thomas Bryant. Their father William certainly died at 37 West Street on 18th Sept. 1870 and his death certificate states that the registrar was informed by one Richard Bryant present at death. Have much more information about William who could be our common ancestor. Hope you read this. Paddy Atkins (Mrs)
Millbrook
1995 and up, I haven't always lived in Millbrook. But I pretty much visited every summer since I was born, and I then moved down in 2004 (I think). Lots of good memories here, like: Mayday, dens, Maker festival, Millbrook School, rope swings, alpines. Can now be a bit boring for my age group, as the only thing to do is go to the park really, and I am now getting a bit old for that kind of thing. So we pretty much have to entertain ourselves, or catch the bus to Plymouth. Or in the summer holidays we walk to Cawsand most days and go jumping. But in the winter when it's raining there is absoloutly nothing to do. Still even though sometimes Millbrook is SO boring ... I love it really. xxx
LOOKING FOR MY ANCESTORS
In 2006 I visited Millbrook with my family with the aim of trying to research my ancestors who lived in West street between 1840 to 1870. alas, We unsuccessfully search the cemeteries an parish church, but I still had the feeling of belonging. Unfortunately we did not have much time in millbrook, and I hope to revisit in the not to distant future. In the meantime if there any Bryants still living there I would love to make contact.
