William And Ann Bloxam

Does anyone have any information about William Bloxam of Moditonham, who died in probably the 1860's? His wife Ann (nee Burnett) died there in 1837.

RE: RE: William And Ann Bloxam

I have quite a bit of information regarding William Bloxam (son of Sir Matthew Bloxam and ) and Ann (nee Burnett, daughter of Sir Robert Burnett and Anne Fassett). They lived at Abingdon St, Westminster, Middx and at Morden Hall, Surrey (I think as part of the marriage settlement).
Sir Matthew was Sheriff of London and became a senior partner (1805) of the banking consortium Wilkinson, Polhill, Pinhorn and Bullock (which he joined in 1794) at 27 Gracechurch Street. 1809 bank failed and both Sir Matthew & his son William became bankrupt.
25th June 1818 - Article in ‘LONDON TIMES’ regarding Sir Matthew Bloxam accident (Saturday 20th June 1818), thrown from chaise he was driving in Ludgate Hill when horse fell. ‘He now lies in a hopeless situation’.
16th October 1822 Sir Matthew dies in Hanwell, Middlesex. His wife Ann died at Botus Fleming 1835/36?
I've got quite a bit more about the family and would be interested in anything you can tell me about the Cornwall connection!

Lynn - I too have loads of info about the Bloxams, and would be very happy to compare notes. I am a direct descendant of them. Are you related to them? I would be more than happy to have an exchange directly by email.

RE: RE: William And Ann Bloxam

My full name is Brian Arthur Burnett Bloxam and, as I have been told, part of the marriage settlement between William and Ann was that the eldest son should always bear the name Burnett - as did my great grandfather, grandfather and father and my eldest son Antony Burnett Bloxam. Apparently, this was because William was penniless when he married. I was never told about the Cornwall connection and certainly his decendants all seem to have lived in the London area.

I should be interested to know how William and Ann came to live in Cornwall, while their children appeared to have remained in London. Did they retire there, as I have retired to Goring by Sea?

At first, I thought that the Cornwall William and Ann were a different branch of the family but the mention of Morden Hall reminded me that, when arranging the banns of my marriage in 1959, the rector of Morden showed me an entry in the parish register of a Burnett marriage with the Bloxams as witnesses.

Thanks, Brian. I have read your post with great interest and will respond more fully in a few days time. From what you say, we must be cousins of some variety!
