Roadhouse Family Pre 1840
I have never had the pleasure of visiting Monk Fryston but my eldest son Brett did while he was in school here in Canada. He was part of the Harrogate Music Festival in the 80's. Dear friends, Pam & Harry Roebuck of LumbyHill looked after Brett while he visited the town. Pam died on a few years ago but before she did we built up a very special relationship. She sent us many photographs which she and her family took for us, she also sent us two excellent maps of Monk Fryston. My ancestors came to Canada in 1820 and settled north of Toronto, Ontario. Letters were written back and forth about the family in Canada and what they had left in Monk Fryston. One of the sons wrote extensively of his life here and at home in England. He wrote of the joy of the the end of the Napoeonic War and described the glee of the soldiers returning to Selby. He and another brother, "James," also wrote of life in different parts of Ontario. The old Methodist Church which was on Roadhouse property is now a private residence, I believe and I would very much like to contact the family who reside in the converted church. I am looking for pictures of, if not family but their homes. Thank You and Merry Christmas

RE: RE: Roadhouse Family Pre 1840
Bruce, I'm a descendant of the Hannah Rhodehouse of Cawood, and am wondering if there's a link with the Fryston and Cawood/Sherburn families? Most of mine spelled their name 'Roodhouse' and some emigrated to Illinois in 1830. I'm directly descended from those who stayed in Yorkshire and I still live just a few miles from Cawood and Sherburn and Fryston.
I know the Fryston Roadhouses were stonemasons. My lot came to Cawood and Sherburn from Darfield, also in Yorkshire, around the mid 1770s. If your lot go back there, we may be connected?
If you Google 'Roodhouse' you will find we had a town named after us in Illinois and because of this, the US Roodhouses have a MASS of info! You can contact them via Roodhouse Library, in Illinois.
Hope that helps, Penny

I am looking for a Pamela Roebuck, nee Stoke who came from South Milford presumably - born maybe 1931, married Roebuck, Pontefract, Yorkshire. Must have divorced him as she went onto marry Edwin (ted) Clarence Shephard of South Milford. They divorced - I know they had one son, Ted (born 1922)went onto marry Edna Mortimer, my dad's sister, in Croydon, Surrey in 1947. Edna died in 1981 and Ted remarried Shirley Thomson in 1983 at Worthing, West Sussex. Ted died a week ago on april 5th 2012. I went to his funeral this Thursday gone, sadly missed, mainly by his new family with Shirley. He was a good uncle though, in some ways. Just wanted to know if your Pamela is the same one as Ted's first wife? Ted would have been 90 yrs old on 13th April.

I am sorry that I have no other information about Pamela and her husband Harry. I know that they had one son and the name Charles seems familiar to me, but I am not too sure of his name. It was Pam's son who called me on the telephone to let me know of this special woman's death. I am sorry that I have no other information. Regards, Bruce.
