Hi, I am Adam. I moved to Nazeing in 1977, aged 3 years old, with my mum and dad. We moved down from Harlow, to be nearer my grandparents. I went to Nazeing Primary School and so did my younger sister Joanne, born 1979. She also went to Nazeing Primary School. Then I went to Cardinal Bourne in Broxbourne 3 years... [more]

My ancestral home - Nether Hall Roydon
Hello,
I'm writing from across the Pond. I have been able to trace my paternal ancestor "John Parish" to Nether Hall in 1841. Does anyone have any suggestions how I might get information that is older than 1841? I even have a painting done by one of my ancestors of the ruins of Nether Hall.

Kingsmead was later... [more]

My grandfather was the lock-keeper at Roydon Lock after he came out of the army after the First World War. He had to have an outside job as he was shot in the neck and also mustard-gassed.

Essex - A Second Selection Photographic Memories
Nazeing's name means 'settlers on the projection of land'. It sits above the River Lea, and is a world of arable fields and market-garden glasshouses. The Red Lion, in the hamlet of Middle Street, was rebuilt in 1888; it is now a residence called the White House. The car outside is a pre-war Morris.

Families with small children could always come to one of the many paddling pools in the area. The pool setting is designed so that a whole day could be spent there, with grassy banks for having a picnic and open spaces in which to run about.
