Nefyn Beach

The Anchorage c1955
Enlarge photo |  More about this photo

The beach cafe shown in the photo entitled 'the anchorage' was owned and run by my aunts, the Misses Miriam and Evelyn Wales, whose father moved to Morfa Nefyn in the late 1800s to take charge of the cable station linked to Ireland. Also my brother was born in the cottage which is sideways on to the sea. Apart from the ghastly sea wall and breakwater nothing has greatly changed.

RE: RE: Nefyn Beach

I remember everything that Pamela has said. I used to play on the beach with her and her sister from 1944 to 1952 and was on the beach the day that Patrick was born. It rained!
My grandparents lived at Glan-y-LLyn by the pond near Bryn Awell farm. The Aunties used to serve marvellous treacle parkin in the cafe. They made ice cream there too. My little old Auntie Winnie used to do waitress sevice there.
Who could forget the fisherman, Hugh Jones, who was the undertaker too, Dick Jones, Will Jones, and Laurence who came from Lancashire. There were others. The mackerel don't run abundantly any more though.
Morley Fox used to anchor his ketch 'Sunshine' in the bay for about ten days some years and we all used to swim out to her.
It would be nice to live those days all over again, at least to talk over the memories once more. Climb the Echo mountain and Boduan. Watch the sunset. Happiest days. God bless Nefyn.
