I'm trying to remember the teachers at Fulbrook School. I started there in the mid fifties . My name then was Amanda Lawrence; house captain for Windsor, when in the senior class. I sang in the Choir of All Saints when I was a Treble from about 1964 to 1967/8. Mrs Marjory Bird was Choir Mistress and her husband Ken sung Bass in the Choir. Mr Fisher was the organist and during my time at All Saints the Vicar was Father Norman Kelly who came from Northern Ireland. My parents and I moved into 1 Sherborne villas just before the war started. Father worked at bickers and I clearly remember the German planes when they bombed the factory. Looking at old pictures and archives of weybridge I came across this page of the very happy childhood memories in New Haw. The very first thing that striked me was when you mentioned about working at Bentleys Farm in the late 1950s.This was the same time my mum worked on the farm, and strangely she moved to Thornton heath. I lived at no. 22 Brookfield road with my sister, Sue and My brother Neil. I married in 1971 and now live in a village near Reading with my husband Colin. Sue married Glyn Lake who lived in parkside and they emigrated to Canada after they got married, and later moved to the States. Neil moved to South Africa with his wife. Unfortunately Sue, Neil and Glyn have all passed away.
I was born in new haw 1948 at 28 linden close in the bungalow that I lived in until I married when I was 22. had a brother john, two sisters marion and jean who despite differences later in life I loved them all. my dad worked like many more at Vickers and my mum stayed home and raised us all. they where without doubt the happiest days of my life. only equalled by my life after I married and had two smashing ...see more
The starting point for me was failing the Eleven Plus. This puts most children in a difficult position. Which school will accept them for their onward education? Answer:- apply to Fullbrook Secondary School in Newhaw where a grammar stream awaits you. I lived in New Haw in Selbourne Avenue and went to New Haw Primary and Junior School and Fullbrook County Secondary from 1951 - 1961. I then went to Brookland Tech. I was married in All Saints Church in 1969. I have many treasured memories of growing up in New Haw and would love to hear from the numerous friends who shared those days with me. My name is Dennis Walsh, I was born in 1953 at 62, Park Side. I lived there until Dec 1965 when we moved to Sydney Australia. My earliest memories are of our house, which backed onto the park.
