A Favourite Place

Of all our (my wife & I) favourite places in Wales, Newquay comes top of a long list of places. It was only sometime in the mid 1980's, that we first discovered this haven. We've been back numerous times, never bored with it. Two things spring to mind, Dylan Thomas & Dolphins. I would love to hear a local's view. What did it used to be like, years ago? What is it like in the winter when tourists are not about? For some years, we wanted to move to Wales, & Newquay was top of the list.

RE: RE: A Favourite Place

I can't say what it was like years ago but in the winter time it's like a different place. The holiday makers leave and go back to work and school, we are left with empty streets and houses until the next holiday where they are full to bursting again. I am only 23 however even I can remember a time when every house at Christmas time had a tree up in the window. Now though its only 3 or 4 houses in every street, showing lack of occupancy. Don't get me wrong, I still love to be home in the low season, it's still beautiful (I actually prefer the peace and quiet), however the village would die without the trade now, so many houses are holiday homes.
