I remember fishing almost everyday during the summer school holidays for mackerel.

Dad..

I would be about 8 at the time, and a picnic on the Island was a rare treat as dad worked and holidays were usually spent with my brother in Leicestershire, was it me, or was it always sunny then...The new school was built the year befor I move up to Ysgol Dafydd Hughes ( as it was known then) and I remember HRH coming to open the school and I know that someone took a cine-film of it, but I have had no joy in locating a copy, anyone out there know of one knocking around...?

Evacuee

My Grandmother rented a cottage (Era Goch) during the war and I went to live with her as a sort of evacuee. I used to attend the one room school in Dwyran. I played with my friends on the beach. I don't know how we did not drown as we would go to Newboroug Warren as it was called then and played in the gullies when the tide was out. I remember Quirt Farm where I was chased by a mother pig. Also watercress from a stream just a bit further down the lane. The dairy farmer had a parrot that used to bite if you got too near. When it died they had a service for it and buried it in the garden.I attended Chapel near the dairy farm - I could not understand... Read more

Amser Gorau yn ei Bywyd?

1950s and 1960s in Malltraeth...
The summers were always long and hot,  we went swimming on the beach when we were younger, and as we got older in the 'corbwll'. We went out collecting birds eggs, the odd apple or pear would disappear too. I remember playing cricket where the bungalows in Pen Parc are.

Memories of Bethel Village And Bodorgan Station

I had the most delightful childhood during the 1950s and 60s in Bethel, Bodorgan. We were not at all a well-to-do family, but the folks living in the neighbourhood were a real treasure and that is what made us feel rich.
Schooldays in particular were a hoy and we thrived on the lessons taught to us by our enlightened headmaster, Mr Hughes, and Miss Jones Bach in Bordorgan CP School.
The summer holdays seemed long and hot as we either loco-spotted down at Bordorgan Station and fished for trout in the Gwna river. Being so close to the railway line we had the best of both worlds at Felin Gwna in fact.
We had little to entertain us during the winter in those days, but all we needed was a field and four items of clothing, well, at least a jacket from each of four lads to use as goal posts. We were quite content playing out until after dark at times quite safely.
Our health was further enhanced by... Read more
