Memories of Newmains

My family moved to Newmains from Overtown, we lived in Woodside Crescent. My dad worked in Kingshill pit in Allanton. We always played in the street or went swimming in the Melvin. I attended Allanton primary school then Newmains J S.

RE: RE: Memories of Newmains

My mum was born in Mornigside, and as a child moved to Woodside Crescent with her parents (No 52, I think). She then married my dad and moved down here to England. I have some very happy memories of my holidays in Scotland, at my grandparents house. My grandpa also worked at Kingshill Colliery. He also played bowls at Newmains Bowling Club, where he took me on a few occasions when he was playing his matches. Happy, happy days indeed.
