My parents lived in Ennors Road in Newquay during the early 70s. They were an RAF family. I was newly-married & lived in Kent, but I used to love visiting them & spending holidays in beautiful Newquay. My new husband used to love sea fishing trips on the small boats & I would go with him, (the only female... [more]

Remember when I went for a walk with Nana and lost my ball off the edge.

My uncle Geoff Morris lived down at the Gannell with his wife Lillian. He used to take the tourists out in his boat shark fishing from Newquay Harbour in the summer. We also had the greasy pole sports event at the harbour every summer. You and your opponent would sit facing one another on the pole with a filled sack each... [more]

We - that means my brothers and I - arrived at the home from Kent and although we were very small at the time we grew to know this as home. My best memories are of a Sister Esther who looked after us, and watching the TV which had just arrived, plus the very large and thick chocolate Easter egg which... [more]

I think it was around this time when we got very excited as a whale had been washed up on the beach, which brought a few people to look at it. Also there was a small theatre there called the Cozy Nook which we changed to the Nozy Cook, I wonder if it is still there and going?

I was born at home in the mill house at Kestle Mill. My mother ran a small Bed and Breakfast from there when I was little. My parents were Julia and Michael Soady. The midwife arrived in a red MG to deliver me. I have one picture of the place so if anyone has any info or pics I would love... [more]

Cornwall A Century Ago Photographic Memories
Here we have an early view of Towan Beach, with everyone overdressed for the seaside. A game of tennis is in progress on a court marked out in the sand. The masts of trading ships are seen in the harbour; its north pier was to be badly damaged in a north-east gale two years later. The Huer's House stands outlined on... [more]

A small party is enjoying a game of tennis on the rocky beach. Despite the warm weather they are sweltering under their many layers of heavy clothing. After the game they will return to their holiday villa, similar to those we can see on the slopes across the bay.

Cornwall A Century Ago Photographic Memories
The modest hotel stands on North Quay Hill with a view over the harbour and bay. An almost colonial-style veranda with fancy railings is supported on cast-iron pillars with a twisted decoration.
