National Childrens' Home 1918
Enlarge photo |  More about this photo

We - that means my brothers  and I - arrived at the home from Kent and although we were very small at the time we grew to know this as home. My best memories are of a Sister Esther who looked after us, and watching the TV which had just arrived, plus the very large and thick chocolate Easter egg which had been donated to the home. We knew a couple of boys called Patrick and Howard who were brothers. I am trying to find out what happened to the home after we left in 1958?

RE: RE: Home

Hi Nicholas, Newquay childrens' home was sold to a Jack Flowers and turned into a hotel named Tregarne Hotel. It then was sold on to a developer called PenPol, they have now gone bankrupt. The home was knocked down when they took over so sadly it is an empty site now.
I lived in the house next to Fistral Bay Hotel looking over the home.
Best regards,

RE: RE: Home

I lived at Pentire from 1946-1960. I also have fond memories of Sister Esther and her corgie dog. I was not, I don't think, in her family - I was in next door with Sister Jennifer. I have a fair number of photos I could copy if you are interested. Regards, Dave Body.
