Noneley 2010

My name is Stephen Geary and my partner, Jodie Flynn, an Australian, and I live at Noneley Hall with our 4 four children, Charles (16), Abigail (14), Teddy (22m) and Madeleine (4m). The house was the farmhouse for Noneley Hall Farm, comprising the house, farm buildings and just over 300 acres.

We moved here in August 2006, purchasing the house and the four acre field to the west, across the lane, from Mr Peter and Mrs Caroline Birch. The farm buildings were sold to Chartland, a Shrewsbury-based property development company in 2006 and were converted into 6 properties during 2007 and 2008. The 300 or so acres were sold to Griffiths, a large egg producer.

Mr Birch was the nephew of Mr Percy Birch who owned the house from at least the 1960's as referenced in Tim Hamer's Memory on Noneley. We understand a Mr Fardo (spelling?) owned the property before Mr Birch, possibly from the 1920's and a Mr Tunna owned the property from at least late Victorian times until the early part of the 20th century.

Noneley Hall had been run for a period as a bed and breakfast establishment by Mr and Mrs Birch. It is now a family home from which I work as a patent attorney.

RE: RE: Noneley 2010

My great-grandfather and grandfather lived at Noneley Hall at the beginning of the last century. My family often drive past the house when we are in the area, not too long ago the place was very run down but am happy to see it being put right. I have some old photographs of my great-grandfather (with the servants) in front of the house. If you are interested I can post you a copy.

RE: RE: Noneley 2010

Many thanks for the post Simon. The information I have is consistent with your comments. I have a photocopy of a photograph said to date from 1906 with a number of people in it infront of the house including a small boy (presumably born around the turn of the century) sitting next to an elderly gentleman who I assume to be the head of the house.

If you have actutal photos, I would love to obtain copies (obviously at my expense) if at all possible. I am trying to build up a living picture of the place by speaking with as many people who know the place and locality as I can. Any information you have would be very welcome. I have a photocopy of a sale notice for the Noneley estate dating from 1920 and am investigating what happened at that time. I have also found a stick with W F (I think) Tunna burnt into it and 1906 (or possibly 1926 but this would then post-date the sale)

We have carried out a lot of work to the house and have now all but finished the conversion of the piggeries into dedicated office space. Please feel free to contact me on 01939 233271 and if you are in the area and can give me a little notice, I'd happily show you around.
