Pear Tree Cottage Greenway
We used to visit my grandparents on Sundays. Quite often during the Spring we would drive through the flooded levels and see boats on the water. I remember wanting desperately to go for a ride in one! It didn't happen. My Grandfather was Charles Perry who was a stonemason and Grandma's name was Laura. They had 4 children, Rose, George (known as Gordon) my Dad, Kathleen and Wilfred. It would be great if anyone remembers the family or perhaps the house?
Somerset memories
Living in Curry Mallet
I was born in Curry Mallet with my two sisters, Pat and Margaret. We were all born in Yew Tree Cottage. I went to Curry Mallet school. My grandad worked for Glides Farm until he passed away, then we moved to Taunton. I used to go to the Bell Inn a lot, it was then run by Tommy Middelton, he had a son named Roger, I always remember him as he gave me a tennis racket. I was only 4 and a half when I left Curry Mallet but I remember walking down the lane to school over the fields, past the old sheep dip. Another memory of my time in Curry Mallet was a very big yew tree in our garden, wow, it used to scare me, and the thing I remember most is the churchyard where my grandad is, his name was Jimmy Stodgell, I am not too sure where abouts in the churchyard he is but I come back a lot... Good Memories
The year was probably 1956 to 1960. I used to go to my uncle's farm with my cousin, Colin Brunt, he had 2 race horses, Lyng Gold and Misty Evening, I used to go up and ride out with him.
Fivehead Parish, Somerset
My wife and I visited your lovely church in July 1982 where we discovered that our family bible was used on the pulpit every Sunday.
The Bible was donated by my ancestor, Mary Corpe in approx. 1854.
We were told Mary Corpe handed out sixpences on the front door step on her 100th birthday. We also have a stained glass window which was donated in her memory in the window of the church.
I would be interested in having family history from the back of the bible (births, deaths & marriages etc) sent to me if possible. Would somebody be able to help?

Fivehead Baptist Church
One Sunday in August 1998 my husband and I were privileged to attend a Sunday morning service in the Fivehead Baptist Church. It was an emotional time to sit there and read the marble plaque on the wall for my great grand father Joshua Corpe. Joshua's son William Wescombe came to New Zealand in 1858 and since then many of his descendants have visited both the Baptist Church and St Martin's. I have researched the Corpe family very thoroughly and am happy to have contact with any members. Catherine Birch - nee Corpe
The Village Stores
Our family, that is father Stan, mother Eve and five of we children moved in 1952 to this shop from our farm in North Devon. We were a general store, delivering papers and general goods to the surrounding area. After helping Dad for a year in the shop I was fortunate in securing a apprenticeship as a compositor on The Somerset County Gazette newspaper in Taunton. I think we sold the shop in about 1956 to resettle in Taunton. Would like to hear from people who remember the Webbers here? I believe the premises are now totally residential.
Possible SLADE Family in Photo - Taken at Hatch Beauchamp? Can You Identify People?
My family roots are in Hatch Beauchamp from Samuel born c.1827 and Elizabeth [nee Pearce] SLADE. During their lives they lived in Hatch Beauchamp, North Curry, West Hatch and Stewley, Beer Crowcombe. He was a Gardener/Domestic servant. This photo has been in the possession of my Auntie Stella [nee Slade] for many years but nobody seems to be sure who the people in the photo are. Do you recognise anyone? Or maybe the house looks familiar? On the back of the photo it says 'taken Christmas time 1905' if that helps?
