RE: RE: When Young
Yes, I was connected with the ABC Savoy!. Originally I attended the ABC Minors Saturday Morning picture shows, and after a short term of employment at the Plaza Cinema on Wellingborough Road, I got the chance to work at the Savoy as a trainee projectionist. The Manager was Mr L.G.Webster, and the organist was Harold Nash...although there had been other organists prior to him. Harold lived in Bostock Avenua, and his wife Nella was a piano teacher. Some years ago I gave the new owners of the Savoy copies of all the photos I had taken during the time I was emplpyed there, priot to and after my return from RAF Service. I also recorded the organ and those have also been deposited with the new owners. I eventually went to the Lyric Wellingborough as the Chief Projectionist. I now live in Cornwall. My Father was the Manager pf the Tobbaconist shop (W.M.Lee's)opposite the Savoy at the top of York Road, before it it, together with the Gents Outfitters (name?) next door, were knocked down when York Road was widened. Next to the Tobbaconist shop was a Methodist (?) Chapel which was turned into a roller skating rink at one time. I also spent many happy days queing to get into the 'gods' at the New Theatre which was further down the road. Happy days!
