The Weekend

A Memory of Nuneaton.

I remember calling for my friend Josie who lived in Princes street. We would walk down coton road towards the town and go in a chip shop there. We would sit in the small room at the back and order a plate of chips smothered in mushy peas. This would cost us ninepence.I loved Nuneaton in the sixties. We'd have a walk round town, maybe pop in Smiths and look at the shift dresses with their hipster belts,or cross the road to wh smiths to go into one of the booths there, put on the headphones and tell the assistant what record we would like to listen to.It was normally The Beatles,Roy Orbison or Cilla Black.I don't remember any fights or nastiness like there can be today. We did of course have our silly falling outs but they were soon forgotton.Riversley Park on a Sunday afternoon was a must in the summer.Sitting on the grass listening to "pick of the pops" waiting for whatever was number one at the time--and of course, looking at the boys.Oh the joy of losing yourself in memories.
