Family connections to The Limes.

The house in the photograph is The Limes and has a family connection. A great uncle on my mother's side purchased this property. He was Alfred William Reynolds, who was an innkeeper in the White Hart pub opposite the house. He combined publican and greyhound coursing trainer for a period in the early 1900s. He is said to have purchased The Limes after training the winner of the Waterloo Cup in 1908. A photograph taken around this time shows outbuildings to the left and a thatched cottage.
The property is still in existence today and seems little changed. The White Hart is also still a pub and also little changed on the outside. Alfred's son, Alfred Louis Reynolds also trained greyhounds in coursing particularly in Odiham, Hants. After his wife's death Alfred William married again and one of his two sons by this marriage, Leslie Reynolds, trained track greyhounds mostly at Wembley Stadium. His greyhounds won the greyhound St Leger five times - a record. He died in 1961.

RE: Family connections to The Limes.

Hi,

I am Roger Reynolds, grandson of Alfred Reynolds and son of Alfred's youngest son Jack. (Jack died in 1975). I worked for my uncle Leslie and with father Jack as a youngster at Wembley Stadium. (It was not the Greyhound St. Ledger that Leslie won 5 times - it was the Greyhound Derby). I witnessed many of his other great triumphs including the first 2 TV greyhound trophies.
I have photos of these times and also of Alfred's time. My father and Leslie were raised in The Limes. In the church opposte there is a stained glass window over the alter dedicated to my grandmother Kate Lydia Reynolds which was installed by son Leslie.
I have contact with another of Alfred's descendents, descended from a daughter of Alfred's first marriage.
Alfred's best known pub was The Greyhound in Pewsey. As a child I visited Lewis's training headquarters and home in Odiham many times.
Leslie had a daughter Barbara, I have not seen her since attending Leslie's funeral and would love to know what became of her.
Any information about the early history of Alfred's life and his family would also be very welcome.
