Old Memories
I remember when I was about 13 years old. Where the roundabout is now there used to be a very high wall which surrounded a large house which was the local surgery and I believe the doctor's name was Dr. Oakell. On the corner of Woodford Lane used to be Chester's ironmongers and the Co-op store and the Co-op butchers. On the opposite side of Woodford Lane was Frank Eaton's newsagents and he also had a bicycle shop next door. Just down the High Street I remember a pub called the Bull's Head which was run by a lady named Phillips, this was on the corner of Geneva Road. I used to live in Swanlow Lane near St. Chad's Church. I remember when the council offices and council yard used to be at what was called "Over Hall", the gardens used to have a large round water feature that always had lots of newts in it during the summer months. Cheshire memories
My Memories
I lived here on the Grange Estate from 1964 to 1968 and attended Meadowbank primary and Winsford high school before moving to Australia 40yrs ago. The photos I see bring back lots of good times for me. I will write other memories after confirmation of this letter. I am sure readers of this website would be very pleased and amazed. Thank you.

Queens Hotel
My mother and father Vera and Fred Groves took over the Queens Hotel when I was a youg boy (BORN 1957). I remember the circus coming in the adjacent field. One day our dog Jip took ME for a walk down to the Flash reservoir much to the panic of my mum. Till she saw the image of me being lead down the road by Jip, briging me home! I recall pedalling around the hotel in my yellow jeep (with working lights!) and around the car park on the front, and one day falling down the stairs. Mum told me how the pianist used to drive a Bentley. My memories are few because I was so very young, but Dad died in 1979 and mum more recently 25 March this year.

Meadowbank Primary School
I attended Meadowbank with my two brothers from 1968-71 and can remember there only being about eighty pupils and four classrooms and a hall used for just about everything else including assembly and canteen. The toilets were situated to the rear of a small playground in what was a stable. I can remember sirens being sounded to warn of salt being blasted from local mine. I can also remember swimming and fishing in the River Weaver close to the school.
Marton Boarding School
I attended the boarding school near Whitegate between 1965 and 1970. Each Sunday we walked the 3 miles or so to the church and back. I remember the dancing on the lawn in front of the church in May. I remember Whitegate as a smashing village and some 44 years later it still sometimes comes into my mind. As a young lad from Northumberland at the age of 11 I was frightened and homesick, played a lot of cricket and football and got into trouble from time to time. Thanks Whitegate, you are a good memory
Marton Residential Boardiong School
I was a pupil at Marton from 1965 to 1967 and have many memories and some pictures. I was in Stevenson House, run by Truck Taylor and the Grey House, run by Billy Doyle. We were always under control so visits to the town were always to church. I'd like to know whatever became of the school, is it a housing development now?
Marton Camp Boading School
