Old Oxted
I was born in Springfield Road, Old Oxted in 1951. I attended Beadles Lane School and Oxted County Secondary School. I recall Old Oxted High Street when it was the main A25, before the by-pass, when the village shops consisted of Deans the shoe repairer, the post office that sold everything owned by Kath Cox, the butchers, greengrocers, general store, the dairy, Hilliers the bike shop and of course, four pubs and a garage. I am still in touch with friends that shared my childhood, some live locally, others further afield: Sylvia Warner, Eileen Malynn, Melanie Tiltman. I am taking a set of 4 prints set in a frame of Old Oxted and Oxted to take as a gift to Eileen when we visit her in the States this summer (2007), and we will no doubt share a few memories of our own. A brilliant website and I'm sure I shall use it again.

RE: RE: Old Oxted
Hello Jenny
I to went to Beadles Primary School, my best friend then lived in Springfield Road, Cecily Locke, my brother Steve Arnold married her sister Janet, i believe Mrs Locke still lives there.
I have happy memories of growing up in Oxted, i used to live in Eastlands Way in a prefab that has since been replaced by flats.
When i was a kid the highlight of the year was the Edenbridge carnival, don't know why , it just sticks in my mind.

I too was a friend of Eileen Malynn's and would dearly love to get in touch with her if you could send her my name and email address Jenny, I am not sure how this works as I was searching for Eileen and this site came up. I went to Notre Dame Convent with Eileen and my maiden name was Anita Pennock so if you could pass this on and help in any way that would be great. You didn't mention the old cinema in Oxted that was the highlight of my youth!!

RE: RE: Old Oxted
Hi, I am the oldest son of Stephen Arnold and Janet Arnold and nephew to Linda Arnold. I know this has nothing to do with this memory but for many years now I have always thought how I would feel living my life without my dad, then I think of my grandfather I had never met. Some of my family may be angry with me if they found out but I would really like to know who he is and where he is, if he is still with us Any knowledge would be great Thank you
