Marriage between Ivy Alice Gillard to Robert Alexander Bent

This date Oct 6th, in 1945, while serving in the RCAF, I was married to Ivy Gillard in this olden church. It was a bright sunny day. Ivy came to Canada with our daughter Barbara in October of 1946. She loved Canada very much, and even though she returned to her homeland on a few occasions, she was truly a Canadian.... [more]

South Devon Coast Photographic Memories

Paignton pier, one of the oldest in Britain, strides 800 feet out to sea; we see it here in all its Victorian finery. Of all the Torbay resorts, only Paignton has a pier, owing to a combination of its popularity as a family resort and the gently sloping sands that facilitated the pier's construction.

Devon A Century Ago Photographic Memoiries

Victorian engineering may have had its successes with its railways, bridges and steamships, but not every invention made it into the handbook of classic designs. This extraordinary contraption - perhaps called a Penny-Two-Farthings - may have had the advantage of staying upright when stationary, but it didn't catch on. It was known as an assymetrical tricyle. Steering was by the two... [more]
