Connah''s Quay Power Station and the Salt Marsh Reclamation Project

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE ALL THE SAND AT PARKGATE AND HESWALL WENT TO? and does anyone have any memories of how the Salt Marsh has changed since the first land/salt marsh reclamation scheme was launched (so I've been told) in the 1930s? Does anyone remember the building of Connah's Quay Power Station in 1950, does anyone remember seeing the sand dredger... [more]

Family memories.

I was amazed and delighted to see a photograph of my mother and grandmother.
Nearest the camera is my grandmother, Mrs Archie Turner (1892-1974) who lived in Whitford Road, Birkenhead. Next to her is her eldest daughter, my mother, Mrs Clifford Bolt (1916-2003) who lived in Arthur Street, Birkenhead. They would both have been tickled pink to... [more]

Merseyside memories

Neston Cross

Remember The Cross very well, worked my apprenticeship at Leighton Printing Works from 1950 to '55 when I joined the RAF, the photos bring back lots of memories. Went back in '77 to visit the old works to see if anybody remembered me. (No). Took a visit to Parkgate too, it has changed so much (no water anymore), but still nice... [more]

The bike shop, the sweet shop, Leighton Court and the last Neston family to catch shrimps

On The High Street, Neston as you look towards Liverpool Road with The Cross just behind you you may still be able to see two alleyways. One used to end in a shed where a man had a bike shop. It was an Aladdin's Cave stacked with spare parts. My Dad bought me bikes. We had the lawnmower fixed there too.... [more]

Cows Lane

Hi, I am writing to see if anyone remembers the history of 'Cows Lane', Little Sutton. Many years ago a land-owner called Benich owned the lane, it was originally called Benich Lane, does anyone have any memories of this or old maps confirming this? My uncle has contacted the local council to have the lane named correctly. The council has agreed if he can... [more]

''The Carlton'' (Grocery etc) Chester Road Little Sutton

My family had 'The Carlton' shop during my childhood and teenage years. My mum and dad (82 and 87) still live in Sutton, and I get back to visit often (I live in Spain). I have many fond memories of Little Sutton. I went to Berwick Road (as did my brothers Nick and Roger). I remember remember playing tennis at Hooton... [more]

Dr Nuttall (1859-1863)

I am trying to trace an ancester, James Nuttall, who was born in Rochdale in 1820 and became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons. He is listed as living in Little Sutton, Cheshire, in the Medical Registers of 1859 & 1863. Although there are entries for him in the 1841 & 1851 census returns when he was... [more]
