Tyne And Wear memories
Margaret lived at 20 West View in 1951 and came regularly to Gateshead. She had a friend who lived near Saltwell Park. When I was called up to do my National Service on 4/10/1951 we were pen friends but she stopped writing after a good while. I went down to Washington for the first time in many years in 1979 and... Most of my mother's side of the family worked at the factory and have since died of asbestos related diseases. I am surprised that no mention or photographs exist of this factory. I remember the NCB coal waggon tipping coal in the road outside the houses of men who worked at the pit. I would then help to carry it in buckets to the coal... [more]

THE SATURDAY MORNING MATINEE
Of course you remember it ... well most of us do!!!
It all seems so long ago now! but it's beginning to drift up from the fog of ‘times gone by’. Hot and damp and steaming gently in the heat of the old Globe cinema at Gosforth (you sold more drinks and ice cream if you... [more]

Living in Low Fell the Ravensworth Arms was our 'local' and a circle of friends was formed in the late 1960s and we still remain friends 40 years on, although only two still live in Lamesley.
My parents met their friends and I met my late husband. It was a wonderful atmosphere and spanned the age range - like an... [more]
