Major Lester Girls School Holiday

A Memory of Penmaenmawr.

During the late '50s and early '60s, 4th Year girls from Major Lester CP School, Liverpool stayed here for a week each summer. For many of the children this was their first holiday and a wonderful experience of life in the countryside, so different from their inner city experience. I retain quite vivid memories of my visit there in 1960, not only the long walks, rounders on the beach but terrifying each other at night-time with ghost stories!

hi just a question after many wonderful years on holiday in pen we stayed in a flat across from the bowling green and Sambrooks café a treat would be to go up to the gardens behind the old post office with a picnic I was told that there was a plaque there to for a family named Hovey who owned Opel heating in Colwyn Bae can anyone confirm this for me we even signed the petition to stop the main road across the front and cryed a lot when they completely ruined the sea front other treats we had was been allowed to stay up to watch the midnight mail come through and pick up the post bag and seeing the stone boats at night when they were all light up and waiting for the tide to come in so they could sail away and the rafy that we used to swim out to when the tide was in I once lost my chalet key amongst the stones and knowing it was dinner time when the mine hooter went off for blasting and the clock which was the works clock and is still there halfway up the workings and still keeping good time just a few memories there are plenty more
