Clwyd memories
Birth of Mother
My mother, Phyllis Hughes, was born at 10 Well Street in September 1906.
I wonder what is there now? She was brought to Ontario, Canada as an infant by her parents, Charlotte (Jones) and Edward William Hughes. They were hired as farmers and remained in Canada for the remainder of their lives.
Roman Bridge And Aqueduct, Cefn Mawr
I have an old, undated photograph labeled "Roman Bridge and Aqueduct, Cefn Mawr WH316". In the background the bridge looks like the one in the Francis Frith picture. In the forefront is a lower stone bridge with water flowing under it. Are both structures standing to-day?

Ministry of Pensions
My father, Eric Bowen of Ruabon, worked at the Ministry of Pensions office, shown on the left of the postcard, for many years. I used to visit him occasionally.
Cefn Mawr
I spent most of my summer holidays in Cefn Mawr at my Nain's. Most of my late mother's family came from Cefn and a lot still reside there. I have such happy memories of Sunday morning walks on the river bank with my uncle and his dog. Millions of memories of playing in the river at Newbridge where my late uncle was the river bailiff. When older calling for a cocoa in Louise's cafe on the main street. Gone now is the cinema where we used to go on a Saturday night. Trips to Llangollen with my cousin were fun. Such happy uncomplicated days. Unfortunately when I go now it's just to visit graves. Sad, very sad. But my heart will always been in Cefn.
Happy Days
I lived in Fron until I was 16. Lived at what was "Bourne Terrace". Went to Fron School then Llangollen Grammar School. Fond memories of working in my Uncles shop (Ethelstons) and delivering bread and groceries around the village and surrounds. Used to play in the "Rec" down by the canal drawbridge.
Now live, in retirement, near Weston super Mare in North Somerset after a career in the Police Force. Sister, Jennifer lives in Wrexham and brother, Neill lives near Rhyl. Sadly my elder brother, Derek died some years ago.
Haven't been back to "The Fron" for years. Must do so soon.
Sunday School
I remember going to Sunday school here from aged 9 till aged 12 when I started at St John's in Rhosymedre. It seemed a long & lonely walk from Cefn along the corrugated fencing road - inhaling the Monsanto fumes - and back again for a 9 year old. Very sad to think it's just not there any more though!
Trevor
I have many many fond memories of Trevor. I grew up there as a child but was moved away from there at the age of 11. I lived across the road from the community centre, No 45, Julie Roberts used to live next door and my best mate Vincent Blackmoore used to live 3 doors up.
Ah what can I say, so many good times, Trevor woods, the Canal woods and the Dee woods were all our hunting grounds. I remember being up a tree in the Canal woods once and all the cows came over to the fence, cows scared me at the time and it just so happened that the branch I was on was hanging over into the field, I never felt so scared in all my life.
Trevor woods were also a great battlefield for us kids, putting up bottles and cans and the like and pretending we were Clint Eastwood and throwing stones like a quick draw, we used to squint like the sun was... Read more
