Peterborough Grammar School For Girls
Does anyone have photographs of the Grammar School on Cobden Avenue? I was there for a couple of years before I moved away with my family and have vivid memories of the main school buildings and the three storey house on the corner where we also studied. On the way up the hill to school there was a coalyard wher they kept the massive black horses used to pull the coal carts - am I really old enough to recall horse-drawn coal deliveries? Actually, our milk was also delivered using a horse and cart. I remember too the shop where we had to go to buy the school uniform - it had a complicated pulley system to send the money to the accounts department. And what a uniform! Dark brown winter coats, yellow over-macs, striped summer dresses and straw boaters - those were the days!

Girls schools provide creative, flexible and intellectually learning environment. Faculty members are so much experienced and qualified. They also provide opportunity of placement for efficient student. RE: RE: Peterborough Grammar School For Girls
I attended from 1955 until 1960. I left Peterborough in 1962 and have resided in the US since then. I have been trying to contact old class mates but after this length of time it is nearly impossible. I have many happy memories of the school and still have my school photograph taken in 1955. My uniform was a dark brown gymslip with 3 large box pleats in the front and back, square necked viella beige long sleeved blouses, brown blazers and we had brown mackintoshes. We also had beige socks and baggy brown knickers (no one will ever forget those). The original school on Lincoln Road and Cobden Ave, is no more. It was torn down for flats and the school was relocated to Werrington, not sure of the year. I also remember our milk being delivered by horse and cart as well as bakery goods. I just loved it when my Nana bought me a donut off the cart. How times flies, if anyone is interested there is wonderful Face Book group page for Peterborough County Grammar School where old class mates are trying to stay in touch. I would love to hear from anyone.
