Tailors in Pinner

High Street c1960

I used live halfway between Eastcote and Pinner and used to pop over to see school friends in Pinner. One of the boys lived in the old High Street and his dad was a tailor. Age catches up with me and I think his name was Stuart (Stewart) Clegg. Anybody remember the tailors shop, it was there back in the early to mid 1960s till I moved oop north.

A memory of Pinner in Middlesex shared on Tuesday, 21st December 2010.

RE: RE: Tailors in Pinner

I wonder if the tailor is the same lovely old man that those of us in the St Anselms Church Youth Club at Hatch End knew as "Old Cleggy"? He was a delightful dapper chap probably in his mid-to-late sixties when he helped to organise activities for us in the 1960's.
I recall his willingness to drive many of us on outings in his old Lea Francis saloon car. We weighed the car down by filling his boot with our camping gear but he never once complained. I remember the red car, leather seats which I had never previously seen, and the way in which the bottom of the car occasionally scraped the road due to the weight of our equipment!
If only more people were like him and gave of their time to help young people!
