Clipping the hedge at St Annes

My dad, Eric Berry, used to clip this hedge - BY HAND!
When we're little, things always seem bigger than they really are, but my recollections of watching my Dad clip this hedge on the days he did the gardening at St Anne's church, were pretty accurate. It really is as big as I remember!
I also recall going to St... [more]

1955 & prior - the Cricketers etc

I was born in 1947 (a home birth) in Grove End cottage which was, and still is, located pretty much across the London Road and railway line from the Cricketers pub. Although I've never been inside the pub, I have on occasion as a child, watched cricket with my Dad at the weekends. I notice on the satellite map that the... [more]

Pinehurst Childrens home, Park Rd Camberley

Memories of Camberley come from my childhood days as an orphan residing at 'Pinehurst', a Surrey County Child Welfare Home 1949-1953. I was put there as a 9-year-old and recall spending a very happy part of my youth there. I attended a primary school, the name of which my memory refuses to recall (Park Road?). Later on I attended France... [more]

My Great Grandparents

Hello from Canada - My great-grandparents, James Elliott and Ann Collyer, were married in Windlesham on July 8th 1865. It is great to see the photos what with me being so far away. I was hoping there would be a photo of the church. They were C of E.  Still it is wonderful to see photos of the town. Thank you.[more]

MacFisheries

Hi Brenda
Thanks for the reply. You Mac's workers are all just one big family, so to speak. Since I started the site in March this year, I'm amazed as to how many of you seem to know each other.
Oddly enough I'm having talks with Ray Sandys and I'm hoping to meet him and Mr Charlie Caisey in the... [more]

Macfisheries

Macfisheries was my very first job when leaving school, in 1967. It was on Camberley High Street. The Manager at that time was a Mr Sandy. I have happy memories of working there, and all the lovely people I worked with at the time, there was - Gerry on the fish counter, and Mrs Hasky, and David Wright, John Brown, and... [more]

Help with MacFisheries website

Hi all,
Can anyone help with memories or anything connected to the great British company MacFisheries 1919-1979/80?
I'm constructing a non profit making web-site dedicated to this long gone major company and any help would be greatly appreicated.
See:  www.macfisheries.co.uk
Is Macs in any of the Camberley High Street photos on this site?
Here's hoping

Return of a Native

Camberley, where it all began. Where I lived half of my life so far.

In your head you never leave the place you were born and raised. On a wet un-comforting day I found myself revisiting the town of my past. I was cast into memories of wartime school in School Lane, street play, places where I worked, courted, laughed... [more]

Camberley Pocket Album

This view was taken in the middle of the village, and is looking down Updown Hill. The shop just behind the lady, on the right, was that of S Workman, who sold fancy goods; it is now an estate agents. We have now completed our look around Camberley, and by taking the road back to the London Road, we can return to Camberley itself, and... [more]

Camberley Pocket Album

The bakery of Mr Christmas stands at the junction of Kennel Lane and Church Road, to the right. The shop on the right is that of Boyce the fishmongers. If we take the road to the left we come to our last picture.

This is now called Kennel Lane, and the building is that of the Windlesham Institute. The road to the right is Hatton Hill Road, and leads to the London Road.
