Pont-Y-Waun
This is a view of Pont-y waun from Pont-y-waun bridge. If you look closely you can just make out the canal that ran parallel to the railway line. In the background is the Rhwsg mountain which I had the pleasure to climb frequently as a kid and even recently on my mountain bike!
Davies
Hello.
My name Roger Evans, I now live in Spanish Fork, Utah, USA. My birth place was Ystrad Mynach. I was wondering if someone out there has any information on the Davies family who moved to Pontywaun from London in the 1960s? They lived close to Garden Suburbs, the road they lived on was more like a back lane and you had to go down steep steps to get to the house. The had three daughters, I think Eluned still lives in the area. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.
Roger.
Gwent memories
Park Street
My grandfather Eddie Williams lived in no.2 right opposite the hut where he played darts. He was the pianist for the Dorian singers.
My Dad
Hi, my dad Robert Browning, who had 6 brothers and 2 sisters, lived in Cwncarn and went to school at Cwmcarn and Abercarn, my dad's friend was Tommy Morgan, they had some good times. My dad now lives in Birmingham, but would like to get in touch with anyone that remembers the Browning brothers, and 2 sisters. My dad lived in Jamesville. I have fond memories of visiting my grandparents. My dad always went to Risca to see the women LOL. Please get in touch. Most of his brothers have now passed over and both sisters have passsed over.
Park Hall Cinema
Has anyone old photos and or memories of the Park Hall cinema? There was also a cinema/ picture house called the Olympia somewhere in Cwmcarn that probably was for silent only and closed when films went "sound". A friend is researching the history of cinemas through the valleys and this is an assist for him as well as being interesting for other readers.
Summer of 76
Summer of 76 ... me and Vincent Stokes camping up the quarry, oopps fire, daming the river down the rugby field and swimming all summer long ...best days of my life. Wattsville was the dogs, Beechwood Ave.
