Coopers Lane
I lived at Coopers Lane with my mother and grandparents - grandfather Bill Lewis was the lime burner for the quarry. I went to Porthywaen chapel and attended the school. Families from there were moved to Brynmelin when they were retired from the quarry. Grandad was always known as Bill the lime burner.

RE: RE: Coopers Lane
My great-grandfather, Samuel Cooper was a resident of Shropshire. Unfortunately he fell foul of the law in 1839 and was convicted of stealing a horse. He was transported to Australia as a convict.
He served his time and, as a free man, became a successful farmer and citizen in what is now the state of Queensland. He became a respected citizen and left a large family which has spread far and wide.
All efforts by relatives to trace any living relatives in UK have been so far unsuccessful. We are aware that all memory of him may well have been struck from family records because of his criminal record. Even my father and his generation never talked about Samuel's crime. What was long considered a source of shame can now be viewed as a badge of honour because a person whose residency in this country had such sad beginnings went on to become a respected citizen and the founder of a dynasty.
Research done so far has found two Samuel Coopers born about the indicated time. Firstly on 8 August 1819 at Lillishall to John and Elizabeth Cooper and then on 25 January at Newtown by Wem to Richard and Eleanor Cooper.
Any information you may have would be appreciated. If you are unable to get information, please feel free to pass this request on to any other Cooper family members. Any help would be appreciated.
