RE: RE: Horrockes
I am researching my ancestry and my entire family of Astleys worked for Horrockses. I remember those gates well from my childhood. I used to go into the mill yard to meet my mum in the mid to late 1950s and remember her once taking me in to where she worked. I remember it being very noisy. I vagueley remember some sort of pond or large water container to the left of the gates just inside the yard. I lived in Malt Street off Queen Street off London Road. The mill was on Stanley Street which was a continuation of London Road. My grandfather William, worked in the New Hall Lane Mill.
