West Yorkshire memories

Allen Priests Mill

In 1969 I worked at Allen Priests Mill as a twister, I also did winding. On my first day I was taught to twist on a Prince Smith, Ann was the name of the person who taught me, I have forgotten her surname, she had a friend called Christine. I then worked downstairs on the Alma machines, with Linda Dutton, Sadie Wheelwright, Pat and Carol. Our foreman was called Lewis Chapman, he died in 1971/72, and Dennis took over from Lewis. Some other people I knew were Doreen Dyson who had a daughter called Maxine, Bernadette who was Irish, we became friends, I was also a friend to Linda and Sadie. Sadie had an accident in 1972/73 when she lost part of a finger, she retired shortley after that, she had a sister who also worked at Allen Priests, her name was Ruth. Happy Times

Beaumont Park c1960

I lived not very far from Beaumont park and as a child I used to go there along with friends, my sister or my brother, I remember the huge slide that was there and the long metal rocking horse that was on the field. The park was great to visit even at winter times, but the best was the summer when the ice cream shop was open and also the large paddling pool was available. Walking down the wide pathways you would come across the stone lions and the lovely monkey trees. The park will always have a special place in my childhood memories.

Slaithwaite, Global Thread Factory

Can anyone remember the address of this Thread Factory in Slaithwaite in the 70s???

1944 Stationed in Osset

On behalf of my father Charlie Comitti. He was courting and young girl called Doreen Morris. She had three sisters and one brother. They lived in Netherton Village. Tragically she was killed whilst walking out, a chap ran into her riding a push bike. He has very fond memories of her and her family.
